'We can catch Inter'

Roma can reopen the Serie A title race, coach Luciano Spalletti believes after Inter's 11-point lead was cut to nine over the weekend.

Looking ahead to Wednesday night's crunch game between the top two, Spalletti said: ''We can still catch them''.

''There are a lot of games to go and there is time to do it,'' he said, noting that there are 14 games left in the Serie A season including Wednesday's mid-week roster.

''It's not going to be easy in Milan but I think we're back in the right frame of mind to pull it off''.

Champions Inter were held 1-1 in Genoa by the rising Sampdoria of in-form ex-Italy striker Antonio Cassano, who is making a strong bid to get into the Euro 2008 squad.

Only a late equaliser by seasoned Argentine goal-poacher Hernan Crespo earned Inter a point.

Roma dispatched Fiorentina thanks to a goal by Brazilian right-back Cicinho.

As well as putting them on 51 points compared to Inter's 60, the win moved Roma four points clear of Juventus who went down 2-1 at Reggina.

''Perhaps the bookies will start thinking about re-opening the betting on the championship now,'' Spalletti said.

''If we win in Milan they'll be forced to,'' he added, remarking that ''anything can happen if the lead is cut to just six''.

Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti hailed his side's long-sought rise into the fourth Champions League berth.

''It was a tough match and we have Pippo to thank, as so often,'' he said after the European champions' veteran goal-getter Filippo Inzaghi snatched victory against Palermo in the dying minutes.

The win put Milan level on points with Fiorentina but ahead on goal difference.
