German director Wim Wenders has been chosen to head the jury at this year's Venice Film Festival.
Wenders, 63, won the festival's Gold Lion award in 1982 for his film Der Stand der Dinge (The State of Things) and was nominated in 2004 for Land of Plenty.
His connection with the festival dates back to the presentation of his first full-length feature, Die Angst des Tormanns beim Elfmeter (Before the First Penalty Kick) in 1972.
He was chosen to lead the jury by the board of the Biennale, chaired by Marco Mueller.
The 65th edition of the festival runs at the Lido from August 27 to September 6.
It will be open with the world premiere of the latest film by Ethan and Joel Coen, Burn After Reading, a crime comedy starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, John Malkovich and Tilda Swinton.
