Yoko Ono to design Chianti label

Yoko Ono is the latest artist to be enrolled by the Fattoria Nittardi vineyard to design a label for a limited edition of its Chianti Classico Casanova wine.

The vineyard is owned by Germany art gallery manager Peter Fenfert who since buying Fattoria Nattarti in 1981 has every year had a renowned artist design a label for a limited edition of his Chianti Classico.

The label by to be designed by Ono, the 74-year-old widow of Beatle John Lennon, will be the first to be produced in multiple colors and it will be placed on 6,000 bottles of 2005 Chianti Classic Casanova.

Artists who have lent their talents to the Fattoria Nittardi include A.K. Penck of Germany, Poland's Igor Mitoraj and local Chianti artist Giuliano Ghelli.

The Fattoria Nittardi is located in the heart of Tuscany between Florence and Siena. It was was once a fortified tower that was first mentioned in the 12th century as "Nectar Dei".

In the 16th century this spacious estate was the property of Michelangelo Buonarroti, who planted his own vineyard and offered the Pope wine as "genuine gift".
