5741 Working for yourself

We're wondering if anyone can help with some advice on working for yourself in Sicily, or indeed, Italy in general.

We've read various posts online that say it's really difficult trying to get a job working for someone else, but we've seen less about getting work for yourself on a self-employed basis.

We're hoping to earn an income through a number of means and just see which turn out to be the most viable; we're both in IT, so some freelance networking/fixing broken equipment or web consultancy could be a possibility, together with teaching English (one of us is also a qualified teacher), or running self-contained holiday accommodation. The aim of starting a new life in Italy isn't to generate a huge income, but rather to have enough to get by without having to struggle (no mortgage and some income from savings are both hopefully on the cards so that should help things out in the beginning).

It would be great to hear about other people's experiences of arriving in Italy and trying to get a business established from scratch.

Many thanks.
