3315 Places on the Map
The webmaster has put up a good map of Umbria - reminding me of a few places which haven't as yet been mentioned.
Spoleto ; this is a very important spot - wonderful town located on the old Roman Via Flaminia, SS3 (though thankfully Spoleto is bypassed!) Loads of Roman relics (quite a few of which are substantially complete), terrific medieval stuff, wonderful triptych in the Duomo by Fillipo Lippi (apparently he did not get paid for this commission, so when he was finishing it off he included a self portrait giving "the finger" to his clients!), fantastic Alborno bridge (pedestrian now), and one of the most delicious residential quarters off the "Road of the Cyclopean Masonry" - I cannot imagine anywhere in the world where I would rather have an address!
San Gemini - absolutely unspoilt and undiscovered (but with one of the best restaurants in Umbria).
Ferentillo - wonderful castle, wonderful scenery - to take in on a leisurely drive down the Val di Nera.
And- much further north - nobody has mentioned Gubbio. Here we have the famous procession of the candles, and the famous Christmas Tree (lights on the mountainside), and some irresistible shops selling particular ceramics and wonderful bookbinding products, and a town hall where the foundations must have cost more than the above ground building, and a smashing "ski lift" to frighten you on the way to visit the tomb of Sant'Ubaldo - unmissable. Plus lots of vaulted streets, the "doors of the dead" which Gubbio stakes a claim to (these are narrow door openings through which you could carry a coffin - located at the bottom of the staircase of the house, but separate from the main entrance door), and a fountain which - if you run around it twice - you become one of the madmen of Gubbio "i matti"!! Add to this a medieval factory (wool dyeing, using the waters of the river) and a wide choice of good eating houses - certainly worth a number of hours, is Gubbio!
