Pesaro the "capo provincia" of Pesaro and Urbino is an attractive and thriving seaside resort, thriving fishing harbour and important industrial town all in one.
With just over 90.000 "bods", the city sits on the River Foglia and is surrounded by hills and interesting small fractions and medieval villages.

The main square in the old centre is Piazza del Popolo which houses many fine buildings of historic note such as the Palazzo Ducale built by the Sforzas in the 15th century and now home to the Prefettura.
The imposing post office building and the fountain flanked by seahorse makes this an ideal point to enjoy a drink from one of the many bars around this lively square .

Rossini Pesaro's most famous son is also remembered and you can visit his birthplace now a museum, Il Teatro Rossini and the famous music school bearing his name.

Il Duomo has become a place not to miss in recent times, thanks to the dicovery of the beautiful mosaic floor which was uncovered in 2000 and where amazing works dating back to the 6th century can be admired through the suspended glass panels on the floor.
There are even some mosaics going deeper down and dating as far back as the 4th century.

A visit to the Civic museum will reveal the brightly painted majolica for which Pesaro was famous and where you can admire one of Italy's most famous collections of Baroque and Renaissance pottery.
Bellini's painting of the Coronation of the Virgin can be seen in the nearby art gallery.

The Rocca Costanza is another important structure in the city and dates back to the second half of the 1400's.

For a collection of bronzes, coins, medals and vases dating back to Roman times then take a visit to the Oliveriano museum .

Heading towards the sea you will come to a very attrative square which has one of the cities most amazing villas the Villa Ruggeri and example of Italian Liberty style which was "di moda" on the riviera at the turn of the 20th century.
Called by some the dolls house and by others the haunted house, this stands next to the symbol of Pesaro " La Palla di Pomodoro". A bronze structure which sits in the middle of a pond acting as a mirror for this focal point.
Known by locals simply as "La Palla" and by tourists for some reason as The Golf Ball!!

Pesaro is an important industrial city and home to some of Italy's most famous furniture producers such as Berloni and Scavolini whos factories are to be found in the industrial estates just outside the city.

Host to the annual Rossini Opera Festival every August.
Many fine shops, Ratti being one of the most exclusive on the entire coast, and over 3 kms of fine sandy beaches, Pesaro has something for everyone.
Even Pavarotti has a villa here.
