3655 Villa Caprile

Villa Caprile is a fine example of an Italian villa and gardens situated on the outskirts of Pesaro.
Built in 1640 for Giovanni Mosca a wealthy marquis from Bergamo who was given a position in Gradara castle, the house was to be his Summer residence and a place to entertain his guests and have some fun.
Many famous guests stayed at the Villa including Casanova, Stendhal, Leopardi and Rossini.
In 1797 Francesco Mosca even had Napoleon Bonaparte as a house guest there.
Caroline of Brunswick rented the villa between the years 1817 and 1818 so a long list of important visitors were able to enjoy the villa and no doubt have fun with the special water features which were built into the garden.
The water games are still a working feature of the villa today and visitors are in for a few surprises as they stroll through this lovely park now home to an agricultural college.
Not wanting to spoil the surprise for anyone I would only say to visit on a nice warm sunny day when the chance of a good cooling down may be more welcome.
If you are planning a trip to the area, Villa Caprile could be added onto the San Bartolo drive and a trip to Gradara and Urbino.
