3845 So much to see, so little time
I feel so lucky to be living in Marche, and we are still discovering places to visit. The list is endless - personally I love to spend time in Ancona - ice cream from Bar Rosa, cocktails in the Liberty Bar, off to Portonovo to spend time on the each, then afternoon tea (I know very English) at il Fortino Napoleonico, now a four star hotel, followed by dinner at Strabaccos. During the day, you should take a look at the Duomo (one of the oldest churches in Italy), check out the museum at the port that was once a Leper Colony. If all that's not enough - there are loads of designer shops.
If you fancy some sightseeing, there's Loretto, the Frassassi caves and grottos, plus hilltop towns around every corner - favourites for me are San Ginesio, Sarnano, Fermo, Ascoli and Treia, plus the Roman Amphiteatre at Urbisaglia, and some castles at Caldarola and Tolentino. I also love Lake Fiastra set in the middle of the Sibillini mountains and the coastal towns of Porta San Giorgio, Numana, Sirolo and San Benedetto del Tronto.
There's some gardens I still haven't managed to see and some Roman Villas, and this year I have promised myself time out to see the opera in the open air at the Sferisterio, Macerata.
Any more recommendations?
