The Swebian Castle (XIII cent.)

The imposing Castle, built under the order of the Emperor Federico II of Svevia between 1227 and 1233, surmounts the higher hill of the city and dominates the surrounding plain. It has a triangular shape and its apex is constituted by the Tower of the Spur, turned to North; the base of the triangle, is constituted by the Square Tower, the Knight tower and the jumping tower, and it is turned to South. During the centuries it has been the residence of princes, marquises, barons and counts. Also the Royal family of Italy, some Princes of Savoia's House and Princess Margaret of England have lived there .Since 1933 it is considered national monument and property of the Count Martini Carissimo that permits to visit the historical part of the castle and some of the private residential house. .
