4974 Sant'Agata Feltria-Fiera fel Tartufo
This October marks the 22nd Fiera Nazionale del Tartufo Bianco Pregiato held in Sant’Agata Feltria every Sunday.
Legge No. 752 16 December 1985 recognises 9 varieties of truffle:
Bianco pregiato
Nero pregiato
Bianchetto
Nero d’inverno
Moscato
Nero d’estate
Ucinato
Nero ordinario
Nero liscio
Each variety has its own distinctive characteristics.
The actual Fiera hosts a number of folkloristic displays, market stalls, a gara per cani da tartufo, and offers other gastronomic yummies in addition to truffles, from fine prosciutti, salami, cheeses, wines, and honey etc. Try the salamino del fumaiolo, di cinghiale and salsicce al tartufo. May favourite pasta dish is pici senesi con asparagi e tartufo. Culinary speaking, if you like the cucina di terra, you will not be disappointed – washed down with a nice sangiovese Colli Pesaresi. Sant’Agata was another Montefeltro stronghold and apart from its medieval aspect, the Rocca, which dates back to 1130 and dominates the village at the northern most corner, hangs precariously on a rock and is quite impressive looking.
Other things to see: Museo Rocca Fregoso, La luna nel pozzo, il vicolo del bacio, Teatro Angelo Mariani, Santuario Madonna dei Padri Cappuccini.
Sant’Agata also hosts Il Pase del Natale just before Christmas, as well as la Mostra Mercato di Primavera – floralia – in May.
Nearest airports: Forli (Ryanair) Rimini (Easyjet)
