5355 fishing ports and olive mills
[LEFT]i like the port at guilianova... if you go out along the breakwater you will find these huge nets suspended off long poles which they drop into the sea every so often... besides each is a small hut... generally occupied with older locals playing cards, drinking wine... and cooking fresh fish.. its the type of private club i wouldnt mind belonging to..
anyway... they are all in general friendly and if you spend a bit of time there and show interest ... a glass of wine or a fresh pan fried fish is often a reward... and a bit of a chat...
presume this happens all along the coast here... to me this is the value of the place... im not that keen on museums and churches ... its local life that intrigues and beckons...
having just finished the olive picking another of my more than favorite pastimes is the mill visit... sitting arround whilst the olives get pressed and being served slices of white bread to dip in the freshly pressed oil ...with a dash of salt... and each farmer bringing his own three or four bottles of wine to keep everything ticking along smoothly... along with the great debate on quality and quantity ...
