We have been researching the idea of buying a property abroad for quite some time and as my hubby retired early (and I retired at 37 when he did :) ) we could really be looking at anywhere in the world.
There seem to be lots of hotspots that are 'ideal investment opportunities' but as my heart is ruling my head I am having difficulty in thinking of anything other than Italy.
Can't really explain it but it is just 'where I want to be'.
Anyway, whilst Umbria is somewhere we have been and loved we are looking further South so that if we are spending the winter in Italy the weather should be warm (although I realise it won't be red hot) and that is one of his pre-requisites.
Also, I am really keen to make this move a fully integrated one and am very keen to learn the language and be part of the community.
Does anyone know whether Southern Italians (Calabria most likely) are amenable to English incomers?
