6320 For 'Il Cacciatore'!
As the 'Il Cacciatore' thread is 'Fully loaded' I have posted my own reply here on a new thread (sorry....)
As a new member firstly I am not making any lewd suggestions, but everyone needs to laugh now and again. I have been living in Italy now for the last three years with my wife and three children. Recently after 6 months of studying I have just passed my hunters exam, meaning this October I will commence hunting. Before any comments are passed about the rights or wrongs of shooting or hunting I am not speaking out for hunters nor am I interested in a lengthy debate about hunting!!!! I am also a licenced firearms holder and trainer. My question is has anyone other English person obtained or tried to obtain their gun licence here in Italy?
I have not commented on this thread previously, but yesterday evening I sat and read through the entire sorry mess.
Your search for a definitive answer to your first post (copied above)
is clearly not going to be satisfied in full on this site.
This site is wide reaching in what it does have to offer regarding information about the experiences others have had in moving on a permanent basis, or on a non residential basis to Italy. All the members have a love of this country to a greater or lesser degree. However when someone is seeking help. information or guidance on an infrequently raised subject such as yours there is little likelyhood that anyone will be able to reply.
I will however try to answer you - bear in mind though that this is 'to the best of my knowledge'....
Your question:" ....has anyone other English person obtained or tried to obtain their gun licence here in Italy?"
My answer: Almost certainly YES - I'm sure you're not unique (are you?). However it would appear that those 'English persons' who have been granted such a licence by the Italian authorities do not frequent this site but rather one more suited to deal with such matters and that would have the information at hand to enable them to deal INSTANTLY with your request.
But as I see it the main reason why you didn't get that instant reply you so desired was nothing more (or less) that the whole attitude in your first post to this community.
Just look at you opening gambit "As a new member firstly I am not making any lewd suggestions, but everyone needs to laugh now and again." Excuse me? Lewd - what's that supposed to mean? And then "....but everyone needs to laugh now and again. Sorry 'mister' - I don't follow you here either. What DO you mean?
You then immediately launched into what was tantamount to the 'writing on the wall' for the current membership not to mess with you because:"Before any comments are passed about the rights or wrongs of shooting or hunting I am not speaking out for hunters nor am I interested in a lengthy debate about hunting!!!!".
OK - point taken. You don't want debate...the why the heck did you pose your question on a FORUM? The definition of which (I'm sure you know) is:
Forum
A market place or public place in Rome, where causes were judicially tried, and orations delivered to the people.
A tribunal; a court; an assembly empowered to hear and decide causes.
Or in common language - sorry I only speak two languages - means it's a talking shop. Something you clearly are not seeking. So I suggest you go and ask your question at the relevant governmental departmment if all you are seeking is a 'statistic' which must be devoid of any interation from other human beings!
BTW - just to clarify my position.
1. I'm English.
2. Married an Italian.
3. Now live permanently in Italy.
4. I know nothing about guns, and until now have never considered owning one would be an advantage.... But have tried to answer your question anyway!
