I recently bought a lovely little guidebook on a certain auction website - entitled "Guide to Lago Maggiore". It must be dating from the 80s (I think).
It was distributed by Rivetta Souvenirs in Brescia and you can clearly tell that an Italian has translated it into English - and not vice versa. The only reference to a writer is the name of the guy who wrote the Italian text, Sandro Chierichetti.
It's a delight to read the grammatical pitfalls and phraseology. Clearly a literal translation which makes it great fun to read! The language itself is obviously dated by modern standards and often quite stilted, so even more entertaining.
Also, you find an occasional word in Italian in the middle of an English sentence, where the proofreader (if he existed) must have dozed off.... I found an occasional "e" instead of "and" and similar other little 'mistakes'.
A sweet little book to read with lovely, colourful photographs! :)
Good to see that there are still some little gems out there...
