Roberto Cavalli was born in Florence on November 15, 1940.
The fashion designer was raised in a family with a strong artistic background. His mother was a tailor and his grandfather was a Florentine impressionist painter with works currently displayed in the Uffizi Museum.
To follow in the family footsteps, Cavalli attended the Academy of Art.
Cavalli revolutionized a way to print on lightweight leather and is known for his famous leather patchworks. After showing his first collection in the White Room of the Palazzo Pitti in Florence and choosing to design his clothes in a manner not following the edict of fashion, Cavalli is now a mainstay on the fashion runway.
