poisoned abruzzo..bussi revisited

adriatica Image

on the old forum there was a long debate over the rubbish dump in Bussi .. got quite heted i think and many people that wre concerned got bitten by estate agents in that area pretending not to be and either disavowing the  whole thing or at leat making it sound a lesser event..

anyway.. off the map for a while its now back on as they have finally decided to bring to trial the owners of the comapny that was dumping the waste.. when i say rubbish i mean highly toxic substances.. in amounts that equate to size of the largest abusive toxic waste dump in Europe...

so Abruzzo well at least the province of Pescara is no 1 in something..

THE Bussi Story

thats the link to the story and what is about to happen in legal terms to the people involved it also gives detalis and locations of the four main dumps..the size and the type of stuff that was put there..

in a sense this is a good story because it shows that the habits of the past will out.. and that those of the present that attempt to cover these things up will alos be outed.. so hopefully bodes well for the future although people who bought in the areas contaminated will find that houses will be impossible to sell for many years tto come as the reputaion of the area has been tarnished to such an extent that everyone knows of the problems of the water in a huge are surrounding the site being toxic to a level that make it unfit both for animal and human use.. and that it has eneterd the food change via local produce..  what use choosing the "green heart of europe" as a place to live if the ground you wish to go green on will produce vegetation likely to shorten your life..

in a positive sense this is a victory as well for the WWF over the water companies in that area that denied and falsified test results for decades to cover up the fact they were poisoning you..  ACA and ATO the two water companies  to avoid also avoided being bought to trial because they did not supply directley poisoned water but mixed it with cleaner water which for some legal reason is a lesser crime and holds far lesser penalties and can only be covered by administrative fines not a criminal process..

anyway for some that carry on selling in that area its an old story..but to be sure under new laws .. well laws that have been re-enforced for estate agents or even owners selling privately declerations have to be made regarding any knowledge of any averse conditions applying to a property.. would be hard these days for someone living there not to be found to be hiding knowledge from potential buyers.... and this will mean that say in the last few years if you bought in that area and were not informed of the contamination you would have agood case to get  a large sum returned of your purchase price.. if money can resolve the issue for you..
