A 73-year-old woman was taken into custody on Tuesday after police discovered cannabis plants growing in her garden at Torre Annunziata near Naples.
The woman was caught watering her two 1.7-metre plants, which were seized.
They weighed in at 2.2 kilogrammes.
Tuesday's bust was the second such case in three months.
In June a 60-year-old retired librarian was caught with almost 700 cannabis plants on the terrace of her villa in Dolo near Venice.
The woman told police the drug cheered her up and had helped her quit smoking.
