Grimaldi Ferry Lines has allocated 240 million for purchase of six new ferries from China, a company statement said Friday.

Finnlines, Grimaldi's parent company, commissioned the ships from China's Jinling Shipyard.

The shipyard has promised to deliver the first ferry in 2010 and the remaining five by the end of 2011.

All six will be RoRo multipurpose ferries, carrying both passengers and vehicles, and will meet 'ice fleet' qualifications in order to navigate in icy waters.

This latest commission is part of Grimaldi's plan to add 36 new ships to its fleet over the next five years.

Grimaldi has decided to invest over two billion euros between now and 2011 to increase its fleet to over 140 ships.
