Herod tomb discovery explainedThirty years of research on the traces of the personality of the legendary king of the Jews culminated several months ago in the extraordinary discovery of his tomb, the mausoleum of King Herod.

Ehud Netzer, the archaeologist who made this historic discovery, professor at the Archaeology Institute at the Jewish University of Jerusalem, took part in the tenth Mediterranean Archaeological Tourism Exchange at the famous ancient Greek site of Paestum near Salerno.

''It is a kind of a 'country club' of the ancient times,'' he explained to the scholars present.

''With much effort fragments of the sarcophagus, decorated with rosettes, were found, now the work for assemblage of the material is under way''.

The Mediterranean Archaeological Tourism Exchange, which ended yesterday, also proposed a conference on 'Interdisciplinary Curricula for Cultural Heritage: Prepare for the Challenges of the Digital World of Tomorrow'.

The debate was attended by some of the partners of the two projects most committed to these themes and scholars illustrated significant experience in various European countries.

The schools winners of the Archaetoons competition in collaboration with Rai Trade won prizes for short cartoons on conservation of cultural heritage: special mentions to the Artistic Institute of Algiers for the film ''Don't Touch''.

Recognitions were given to the schools of Civitavecchia and Grosseto.

The Aosta art high school was winner with ''Archidea''.
