A 62-year-old Italian woman went to the police on Friday to report a neighbour who had repeatedly attacked her in the belief that she was a witch.
The woman, named as Rosa from Ventimiglia in northern Italy, said she had been beaten up four times by her 66-year-old neighbour, who had threatened to kill her.
"I fear for my life. She's convinced I'm a witch and that I have put the evil eye on her and there's nothing I can do to make her see reason," Rosa said.
Rosa said her neighbour kept trying to ward off her supposed evil influence by drawing crosses on the street in front of her house and throwing salt onto her balcony.
"She won't stop hounding me and even threatened me in front of the police, saying she would tear my guts out," she said.
"I know nothing about spells and witchcraft. I simply want to live my life in peace and hope the police will help me before it's too late," she said.
