New York celebrated running once again on Sunday with the world’s largest and most famous marathon, the New York City Marathon.
Like every year, the number of Italians participating in the marathon was high: of the 45,000 runners, 1,800 were Italians.
And they run fast too. The Italian female winner was Valeria Straneo, with 2h28'22", placing fifth overall and third among Europeans. Valeria, 37, is a professional long-distance runner who won the silver medal at the Moscow 2013 Athletics World Championship and holds the Italian record in the marathon.
Among Italians, the male winner was Daniele Meucci, with 2h12'03", and a 10th place overall. Meucci, 28, is an athlete specializing in long-distance running. He represented Italy at the 2012 Summer Olympics, running in the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters. He won the silver medal at the 2012 European Athletics Championships.
Congratulations to all the runners!
