Italy's anti-doping prosecutor on Wednesday requested a two-year ban for Palermo defender Moris Carrozzieri for cocaine use.
Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) Prosecutor Ettore Torri also asked CONI's anti-doping panel to impose a monetary sanction, in the first application of the latest regulations issued by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Under WADA rules Carrozzieri would be liable to a fine ranging from 50 to 50,000 euros.
The Serie A player failed a cocaine test after Palermo's 1-0 home win over Torino on April 5.
The test was part of CONI's new 'targeted' anti-doping testing scheme introduced in January.
Carrozzieri, 28, joined Palermo from Atalanta last summer.
He has also played for Sampdoria.
The tall (1.92m) centre-back played 17 times for the Sicilian outfit before being automatically suspended pending the doping ruling.
