The 51st International Art Exhibition, organised by the"Fondazione la Biennale di Venezia" and directed by Maria de Corral and Rosa Martinex, opens for the public on Sunday 12th of June, 2005.
The 2005 edition of the oldest and most celebrated exhibition of modern art will introduce several innovations, which are underpinned by a renewed will to reinforce the central role of the Biennale in the international art scene.
For the first time in its 110 years of activity the direction of the exhibition has been delegated to two Directors, Maria de Corral and Rosa Martinez- art historians, critics and independent curators of Spanish nationality. There will be two specific and complimentary exhibitions to provide a well defined journey through modern art, starting from the 70s up to today, with a view to the future as well.
The two exhibitions – “The Experience of Art†and “Always a Little Further†handled by Maria de Corral and Rosa Martinez respectively will provide different viewpoints, and the best of modern art based on a careful selection of the artists, each represented by several artworks. The artwork will be, in its majority, either new work or work created in situ.
