An important agreement between the University for Foreigners of Perugia and the New York-based Scuola d’Italia Guglielmo Marconi was signed in New York last week.
The “Memorandum of Understanding,” as the agreement was called, will allow Scuola d’Italia, the only school in North America that provides a classical, bilingual education rooted in the Italian and European traditions, to offer Italian language courses for adults which will be accredited as courses carried out by the University of Perugia.
“This accord marks an important advance for both institutions, and for the promotion of the Italian language in New York. La Scuola is the ideal point of reference for the University and vice versa. We are very interested, satisfied and happy because of this important step, not only for the School and the University, but for the teaching of Italian language and culture in general,” said Stefano Acunto, Chairman of the Italian American Foundation and of the Board of Trustees of La Scuola d’Italia.
“The school should be a reference point for the Italian community in America as well as for the Italians who wish to come to the United States," said Professor Roberto Dolci, head of the New York foundation of the University for Foreigners of Perugia.
The University for Foreigners of Perugia, established in 1921, is the oldest university devoted to the study of the Italian Language and Culture geared toward foreign students. Its motto is "Ambassador of Italy in the world."
