Ancelotti future after 2nd spot clinched, CEO

AC Milan will review coach Carlo Ancelotti's future once Milan secure second spot in Serie A, Milan CEO Adriano Galliani reiterated Tuesday.

''We'll only talk about the future when we've clinched direct access to the Champions League,'' said Galliani after owner Silvio Berlusconi reportedly blamed the coach for falling short of the original target of winning the Serie A title.

''If we haven't win the scudetto this year, it was Ancelotti's fault,'' Rome daily La Repubblica quoted Berlusconi as saying.

Galliani declined to comment, saying ''as a rule the CEO never comments on what the owner says''.

The report increased speculation that Ancelotti might leave Milan, with Roma coach Luciano Spalletti favourite to replace him if he does.

Ancelotti, who is Serie A's longest-serving coach having joined Milan in 2001, has been linked with Premier league giants Chelsea for weeks.

According to La Repubblica, Chelsea has offered him five million euros a year until 2013 and Milan has made a counter-offer of 3.5 annually until 2012.

Neither clubs, nor the coach, has confirmed this, but Ancelotti said Monday night he was staying at Milan.

Milan recently had a five-game winning streak that overtook Juventus and put it within seven points of leaders Inter Milan with four games left.

Inter opened the door slightly with a home draw against Chievo Sunday, allowing Milan to close the gap to five, but Milan were only able to draw against Juve, meaning it is still seven behind with only three to play.

Inter can clinch its fourth straight scudetto if they beat Siena Saturday.

If Inter don't win, AC Milan will have to win at Udinese Sunday to keep the race theoretically alive.

Juventus are four behind Milan.
