The 12th Asto del Barolo Wine Auction ended last week, generating a total of 40,000 Euro in bids for the beloved Italian wine.
The Accademia del Barolo organized the auction, which took place in three countries simultaneously. Bidders vying for a few bottles of the “King of Wine” placed their offers at events in Hong Kong, Singapore and Italy.
On the auction block were 36 lots of vintage Barolo, one of the most celebrated wines in the world. The highest single bid rang in at 4,000 Euro, for a commemorative case of wine especially made to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Italy’s unification.
The auctions helped to raise the already high profile of Barolo wine around the world, but the events were as much about wine as they were about philanthropy. All of the proceeds from the auctions will be donated to the Don Bosco School of Sihanouk Ville in Cambodia to purchase teaching supplies.
