"We need to make sure promises are kept", said Benigni, "if they are not scream and and shout to obtain them".
The entire trip was coloured by jokes on Berlusconi, who visited the various sites the day before.
"Comedians should make people laugh, politicians should get things done".
The Oscar-winning actor and director also said, referring to the visits of Berlusconi and the Roman comedian Verdone: "Berlusconi came yesterday, but I did not know it. If I came as well there would have been another earthquake - with serious tremors... we would have done Verdone, Berlusconi and Benigni: the three greatest comedians of Italy in L'Aquila".
Benigni concluded his visit with a show at the Guardia di Finanza di Coppito. He entertained about 2000 people with more jokes and his, now well known, interpretation of Dante. We include a clip of a similar piece of Danta interpreted by Benigni that was shown on Italian public television.
