(ANSA) - The brother of a keysuspect in the failed July 21 terror attacks on London has been released from custody by a Brescia appeals court.
Fethi Issac was detained shortly after police arrested his brother Hamdi at the Rome home of another brother, Remzi.
Fethi, who lives in the northern city of Brescia shortly after Issac's arrest on July 29. He was detained by police on suspicion of international terrorism and destroying evidence. In the end a judge rejected these accusations but accepted that he should remain in custody so that investigators could complete their enquiries into the web of friends and family which helped his brother flee to Italy.
An appeals court decided to release him on Saturday. Hamdi Issac has freely admitted his involvement in the attacks, in which no one was harmed, but insists they were merely a "demonstrative" gesture. A three-judge panel decided this week to extradite Hamdi to the UK by September 21. His lawyer Antonietta Sonnessa said she will appeal the decision in Italy's highest court.
Remzi Issac is awaiting a decision by a Rome court on his release. The court, which began its deliberations on Thursday morning, could also decide to place Remzi under house arrest, since police have lifted an impounding order on his Rome apartment.
