Italy’s heads of state have chosen a delicious official way to celebrate the country’s 150th anniversary of unification: vino.
In honor of Italy’s 150th birthday, special bottles of wine have been commissioned. The 20 bottles of red wine and the 20 bottles of white wine will be presented to world leaders as a gift from Giorgio Napolitano, President of the Italian Republic.
The 20 whites and 20 reds will represent a range of Italian grape varieties, with a wine specially selected from every region in the country. The whites will come from 2009 grapes, while the reds range from 2005 to 2009 vintages.
The wine is currently being bottled for a short period of ageing, but the commemorative reds and whites will be ready for presentation when Italy officially turns 150 on March 17th.
