Models sashayed down the catwalk this weekend for Dolce & Gabbana’s Italian inspired Milan Fashion Week collection as Sofia Loren’s voice filtered out over the audience.

The colors and cuts clearly placed the collection in the same 1950s Sorrento setting as Loren’s film, but the patterns themselves added an extra dash of Italian spice into the mix.
The Dolce & Gabbana spring/summer 2012 collection is covered in food. Heads of garlic dangle from the model’s ears and purse straps resemble rigatoni.
Vegetable prints took centre stage in the eclectic presentation, with dress and tunics covered in zucchini, eggplants and onions.
Many of the outfits are cut from simple cotton, adding another layer to the already rustic look.
Though the colors and flavors of the clothes may be reminiscent of 1950s and 1960s Italy, the presentation was anything but old fashioned. LED screens and live streaming video offset the vintage feel of the outfits.
But those with a craving for Dolce & Gabbana will have to be prepared to pay for it. The fashion duo recently announced the end of their lower-priced D&G line.
