(ANSA) - The stars of Italy's national soccer team were enthusiastic Wednesday about the new look Dolce and Gabbana are tailoring for them. The players were up measured up on Tuesday for the squad's new off-field wardrobe, which has been designed by the brand famed worldwide for its sauciness .

"Dolce and Gabbana clothes are a little tight but they make me look slimmer," said the beefiest member of the squad, Lazio goalkeeper Angelo Peruzzi - known to his team-mates as Tyson for his size.

"I've tried them, they look good." AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso said the designers "are great."

Gattuso should be used to the Dolce and Gabbana look, as the designers also kit out his club. Italian soccer's man-of-the-moment, Fiorentina striker Luca Toni, was unreservedly enthusiastic. "I wear their gear in private and I like it," said Toni, who hit a hat-trick in Italy's 1-4 win in Belarus at the start of September and is joint top of the Serie A's scoring
rankings with six goals.

Despite splitting up as a couple earlier in February, Dolce and Gabbana celebrated 20 years in the fashion business last month.

Industry observers say the break-up does not seem to be affecting their professional relationship. The design pairing continues to produce the provocative, body-clinging outfits that have won them customers like Madonna, Kylie Minogue and Monica Bellucci. Their business is reportedly worth 500 million euros.

Dolce, 47, and Gabbana, 42, 'came out' five years ago, even though most in the fashion world already knew they were having a gay relationship. The duo are not the only Italian fashion giants to have ventured into the world of soccer. Giorgio Armani is the official designer of England's off-field wardrobe.

The Azzurri squad is currently at a training camp at Coverciano near Florence, preparing for Saturday's World Cup qualifier against Slovenia in Palermo. A draw this weekend will be enough to book Italy's ticket to next summer's World Cup in Germany.
