It is probably the end of the line for a bus driver whose determination to keep a promise to his lady love annoyed passengers in Rome on Tuesday, reports Corriere della Sera.
Passengers on the Atac 116 electric bus overheard the driver speaking to a woman on a mobile phone. He called the woman “amore” and promised to go and pick her up. Shortly afterwards, he astounded the passengers by telling them to get off the bus as he had to make a detour. The passengers left the vehicle and the driver drove on to his romantic rendezvous.
Now the red-faced managers of Atac are apologising to passengers and have opened an enquiry into the incident. They say that the driver’s behaviour is out of keeping with the company’s rules and good practice.
