From the 21st of April to the 10th of August 2012, the James A. Michener Art Museum in Doylestown, Pennsylvania will host works from Florence’s Uffizi Gallery in a rare American exhibition. The Michener is the only museum in the northeastern United States that will host these pieces.
The exhibition “Offering of the Angels: Treasures from the Uffizi Gallery” marks the first appearance outside Europe for many of these works of art, as well as the first international touring exhibition held at the Michener. More than 40 paintings and tapestries from Titian, Luca Signorelli, Botticelli—including his ephemeral “Madonna with Child”—and other Renaissance and Baroque artists make up the exhibition.
According to Uffizi Gallery director Antonio Natali, speaking live from Italy during a press conference at the Italian consulate in Philadelphia on the 12th of April, “these paintings are rarely seen because they are in the secret rooms of the Uffizi”.
Admission to the exhibition is included with museum admission. Tickets are $15 for adults and run on a timed entry system, with a specific date and time to view the “Offering of the Angels” listed on each ticket. Advance online purchase is recommended via the museum website. The Michener is closed Mondays.
The Michener Museum’s permanent collection focuses on art from the Buck County region of Pennsylvania, including a world-class collection of Pennsylvania Impressionist paintings and an outdoor sculpture garden honouring the landscape that has inspired many of the museum’s pieces.
