Top honours given by American magazine Travel & Leisure - Travel & Leisure America's most popular travel magazine has chosen Florence as the "Best City in Europe" in 2007.
Rome and Venice followed Florence in second and third place while Siena's unique historic and artistic qualities earned it a seventh place finish.
With over three million readers, Travel & Leisure is the most read travel and lifestyle magazine in the world.
The magazine is known for its ability to create trends in the travel and lifestyle industries.
Its readership is the most appealing on the US market 75% of its readers have a valid passport and an average annual income of 89,000 dollars.
"This type of recognition is incredibly flattering, especially in light of the strides we are making in the tourism sector," commented Matteo Renzi, Florence Province President.
"It means that we are on the right track in our efforts to find the perfect balance between culture and tourism."
