(ANSA) - An 18-year-old German tourist was hauled away by police here at the weekend after he stripped naked in front of the world famous Leaning Tower of Pisa.
Apparently flummoxed by the sight of the nude visitor on the lawn in front of the tower, the council officials charged with looking after the historic site decided to call in the law.
The young man appeared unrepentant when questioned by police officers and explained that his exploit had simply been the result of a bet.
The tourist, whose name and details were duly taken down but not released to the public, now has a police record in Italy for 'acts contrary to public decency'. It was believed to be the first time anyone, Italian or foreign, had bared all in front of the Leaning Tower.
