A giant sandstone sculpture has been uncovered at the Monte Prama excavation site, home to the Giants of Monte Prama, ancient stone sculptures created by the Nuragic civilization of Sardinia.
Archeologists working at the site dug up another “giant”, which joins the roughly 5,000 pieces, including 15 heads and 22 torsos, making up the statues – when reconstructed, the sandstone figures are between 2 and 2.5 meters in height.
The ancient stones figures from the Bronze Age were first found by accident in March 1974. After four excavation campaigns carried out between 1975 and 1979, the thousands of pieces recovered were stored in the repositories of the National Archaeological Museum of Cagliari, where they have been recently put on permanent display.
