Goodbye, hand-me-downs! Soon under-tens who insist on “designer” clothes will be able to cut a dash in Gucci. Frida Giannini, the company’s creative director, has announced the launch of Gucci Children’s Wear in June. The range will be unveiled in Italy and will then be available in forty stores worldwide.

Ms Giannini is currently in Singapore, where she has been visiting the recently renovated Gucci store and there she has been honoured by having an orchid – the Paravanda Frida flower – named after her. The orchid inspired Ms Giannini to create her limited edition Boston bags in February. Profits from the sale of these are to go to the Singapore charity, “Mainly I love kids" [MILK].

Gucci’s Chief Executive, Patrizia di Marco, has said that there are plans to market Gucci as a “lifestyle brand” which will design and produce ready-to-wear clothing, homeware and jewellery as well as haute couture. Gucci will be the first luxury fashion house to launch a range for children.

Will your children be wearing Gucci?
