New upscale health spa opens in Casciana Terme - Swimming pools in the olive oil mills, a river of warm spring water, a saltwater pool, massages in rooms heated by burning wood... Visitors to the new Villa Borri spa in Casciana Terme (Pisa) are treated to all of this and more.

The spa is housed in an eighteenth century building on a 7,000 sq m park that includes 22 apartments (with butler service upon request) nestled between villas and former workers' quarters.

Casciana is the only centre in Tuscany that can provide a complete health spa experience including traditional therapy, rehabilitation and spa services.

Regional tourism assessor Anna Rita Bramerini says: "The spa caters to upper middle class guests and brings new life to the Casciana Springs it betters an already wonderful experience and will most certainly attract an international clientele."

The Tuscan regional government - a partner in the corporation (the other partner is the city itself) - financed the Villa Borri renovations with more than two million euros.

Another one million was given by the Casciana Terme city government.

Renovations were supervised by the president of the San Casciana springs, Sergio Parenti, who says: "We are about to turn a corner in our business operations. In the meantime, we have 15 new jobs available and foresee significantly increasing that number in the near future."
