Italian pop legend Laura Pausini won the Best Original Song award at the 2021 Golden Globes.
The winning song, “Io Sì (Seen),” is from the Sophia Loren-starring Netflix film The Life Ahead. Performed by Pausini, it was written by Diane Warren, Pausini herself and Niccolò Agliardi.
The Life Ahead (Italian: La vita davanti a sé) is a 2020 Italian drama film directed by Edoardo Ponti, the son of Sophia Loren. It was nominated for a Golden Globe as Best Foreign Language Film, but did not win the award.
An exhilarated Pausini, who was notified via Zoom as this year’s awards ceremony was remote, wrote the following post on her Instagram account:
“I’ve never dreamed of winning a Golden Globe, I can’t believe it.
Thank you so much to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
I want to thank @dianewarren from the bottom of my heart. It’s an incredible honor to be able to receive such recognition for our song, and the fact that it's our first collaboration makes it all the more special.
Thanks to the incredible team #EdoardoPonti, @niccoloagliardi , @bonniegreenberg
Thanks to @netflix and @palomarproduction
And all my gratitude and respect to the wonderful #SophiaLoren, it was an honor to give voice to your character, to convey such an important message, of acceptance and unity.
I dedicate this award to all those who want and deserve to be “seen".
To that little girl who 28th years ago won Sanremo and never would have expected to go this far.
To Italy, to my family, to all those who have chosen me and my music, and have made me what I am today.
And to my beautiful daughter, who from today I would like to remember the joy in my eyes, hoping that she will grow up and always continue to believe in her dreams.”
