As part of the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy next year, a collection of relics of the House of Savoy is on show in Milan.
Many of the objects, collected by the Fondazione Principe di Venezia, of which Prince Emanuele Filiberto di Savoia is president, and by some private collectors, are on public display for the first time.
Among the objects are a gold breviary which belonged to Queen Margherita and which was made by Milanese goldsmiths, the pocket watch which King Umberto 1 wore at the last dance at the Royal Villa of Monza and diamond monograms which belonged to Queens Margherita and Elena.
An embroidered silk cloak which Queen Margherita wore at the Quirinale on the occasion of the First International Congress in 1891 is also on display. It was at this Congress that Italy was recognised as one of the nine Great Powers of the time.
