How not to motivate your staff

A staff motivation day held by Tecnocasa, one of Italy’s leading real estate companies, ended in disaster when nine people had to be treated in hospital for burnt feet, reports Reuters.

During the “motivational exercise” sales staff walked across a bed of hot coals after a demonstration by Alessandro Di Priamo, a former athlete who is now a motivation trainer. Mr Di Priamo said that firewalking helps people overcome what they see as their limitations and seek new challenges.

Mr Priamo also said that, without his knowledge, the hotel where the training day was held had used the wrong kind of wood and some artificial coal for the fire.
None of the staff were seriously hurt.

Have you ever done a firewalk?
