To celebrate the 8th of March, International Women’s Day, women will be offered free entry to museums, villas, monuments, archeological sites, archives and libraries across Italy. This initiative seeks not only to increase public interest towards art, but above all strives to emphasise value the women who have contributed and continue to contribute to the world of art. Here are some of the most fun and interesting events celebrating women in Italy today:
In Rome
“Vestal Virgins": a guided tour at the House of the Vestal Virgins in the Roman Forum The only female priesthood allowed in the Roman religion will be investigated through the testimonies of ancient sources read by actors.
In Milan
The exhibition at Palazzo Reale tells the story of "the Italian family" through 60 images collected from the past 100 years of Italian cinema.
In Turin
At the Museo di Antichità you can meet the museum's archeologists who will reveal special recipes and secrets to prepare antique perfumes and help you create your very special scented powder.
In Naples
At the ‘900 Museum, artist Tommaso Binga (pseudonym of Bianca Menna) will involve other artists, women and the public in the performance “I Dream of a Masculine World Transforming Itself Into Feminine”. The event will be a creative experiment with the purpose of trying to answer a number of questions connected to art, society and feminism today.
In Portogruaro (Venice)
The Museo Nazionale Concordiese opens its doors to women for a laboratory on jewelry with the reproduction of a real piece of Roman jewelry.
