The first edition of Moviemov, a traveling festival designed to expose foreign audiences to Italian films, is set to open in Bangkok from the 8th to the 12th of June.
The international festival reflects the desire of the Italian film industry to reposition itself on the centre of the global stage. Masters like Fellini and Rossellini are world renowned, but a new generation of talented actors and directors must establish themselves in order to continue the tradition of Italian cinema.
The 2011 edition will feature a retrospective of the work of comedy master Mario Monicelli, as well as the most celebrated current projects making the rounds on the Italian cinema scene.
The Moviemov Festival will be the first event, but the cultural exchange between Italy and Thailand goes both ways. Before the 2011 Rome Film Festival opens in October, organizers will devote two full days of pre-selection to screening Thai films.
