On Saturday, October the 12th, Italy celebrates Chocoday, a day dedicated to quality chocolate, and promoted by the organizers of Perugia's famous chocolate festival, Eurochocolate.
They chose this date, October 12, for this initiative because it coincides with the anniversary of the discovery of America, "homeland" of cocoa, and therefore chocolate.
Many events around the country will focus on the preparation of top quality chocolate- obtained exclusively with the use of cocoa butter and cocoa mass, with no extra fat or vegetable oil - and will address the many ethical and social issues related to its production.
Producers, cocoa exporters and importers, chocolate manufacturers, pastry shops and chocolate shops, schools, NGOs, government offices and all chocolate fans will have the opportunity to work together to promote ethical cocoa and top quality chocolate.
If you cannot make it to any of the events, you can support the initiative and the values it promotes by signing the Chocoday Manifesto on their website.
