A heat wave lit up all of Italy this weekend as most regions experienced unseasonably warm temperatures.
Several mountain ski resorts have been forced to close early as the mercury soared. In the Alps, Aosta shut down lifts for the season when temperatures reached 30 degrees. The risk of avalanches outweighed the pleasures of sunny springtime skiing.
Modena recorded its highest temperature ever for this time of year. Historical records dating back 181 years have shown that the city has never observed such hot April weather.
The beautiful chart-topping weather is expected to last, meaning spring has finally arrived in Italy and the rush to the beach has begun.
