Italy Rejected Fava’s Gag Law

The Chamber of Deputies has rejected the gag law proposed by Mr Fava.

There will be no SOPA in Italy, at least for the moment. With 365 votes in favor, 57 against and 14 abstentions, the Chamber rejected the amendment proposed by the Lega Nord Party. According to Mr Fava's proposal anyone could have requested the removal of internet content considered illegal or offensive without the intervention of the judiciary.

All political parties have welcomed the result of the vote with unanimous positive comments and applauded the defeat of a proposal that would have represented a new attempt to gag the Web.
