(ANSA) - The stifling heat wave which has sent temperatures soaring into the upper 30s and lower 40s in many Italian cities is expected to break around midweek, weather forecasters predicted here.
By next weekend, they added, the excessive summer heat and humidity will be a memory with temperatures dropping by as much as 10 to 12 degrees to around 24.25 degrees.
The drop in temperatures will be the result of the arrival of a storm front which will bring rain first to the north and then the rest of the peninsula. The highest temperatures in Italy this weekend were recorded in the southeast region of Puglia and the central regions of Tuscany and Lazio, as well as in Sardinia.
