The Telegraph reports that negotiations are under way between the American ABC TV network, Mr Berlusconi’s Mediaset company and an unnamed British TV company with a view to screening an interview with Amanda Knox. Knox, who is serving a 26-year sentence for the murder of British student Meredith Kercher, is said to be keen to tell her side of the story on television.

According to the Telegraph report, Knox’s family have hired PR consultant David Marriott to represent them in the negotiations while Knox’s Italian lawyer, Luciano Ghiga, is against the idea of an interview. However, on Sunday Knox’s stepfather, Chris Mellas, speaking to the online West Seattle Herald, said that the family had requested permission for an interview because Knox wanted it but that the Italian Ministry of Justice had refused.

Knox is due to make a public appearance on June 1st, at pretrial proceedings which will decide if there is enough evidence to try her for slander against the Italian police, whom she has accused of hitting her during her interrogation. Mr Mellas says that the family will request the removal of Judges Giuliano Mignini and Claudia Matteini along with Assistant Prosecutor Manuela Comodi at these proceedings because they were involved in Knox’s previous trial. The request for an interview will then be put before a new judge.
