Life of Michelangelo exhibition in Siena

A new exhibition which charts the life of Michelangelo [1475 – 1564] through his own letters, manuscripts, working sketches and other documents has opened in the Santa Maria della Scala Museum Complex in Siena.

Collected by the Casa Buonarotti Foundation, the documents range from the artist’s youthful poetry to orders and receipts for blocks of marble and the letters he wrote when he was nearly ninety to his favourite grandson, Leonardo. There are also many documents relating to Michelangelo’s work in Siena.

“La Vita di Michelangelo – Carte, poesie, lettere e disegni autografi” [“The Life of Michelangelo – Papers, Poetry, Letters and Working Sketches”] runs until 14th November and is open every day including holidays from 10.30 – 19.30. Tickets cost €6.00 and if you produce an exhibition ticket at the Duomo, it will entitle you to a €.0.50 reduction on a Cathedral visit ticket. Similarly, a Duomo ticket will entitle you to a €0.50 reduction on a ticket for the exhibition.
