Every summer, Livorno hosts the “Effetto Venezia” summer festival, the town’s biggest event of the season, taking its name from the neighborhood, La Venezia, where it is set.
Located near the New Fortress, in the historical center of the Tuscan town, La Venezia is a miniature Venice, with its canals (built by the Medici to facilitate the transport of goods into the city), small bridges and tiny squares.
The festival features performances, theatrical and musical events, exhibitions and cultural initiatives. Food and wine stands, as well as stalls of crafts and antiques are set up in the area. The local restaurants and bars set their tables outside for the public to easily enjoy the festival’s activities.
"Effetto Venezia" was established in 1986 to help the historical, architectural and business recovery of the neighborhood and has grown to become Livorno's biggest summer event.
This year’s edition runs July 25-August 3.
